Some time ago I was led to believe that a certain amount of melting is designed in to some textile gear, but to stick to the road and slow the rider down, not to stick to the skin. No idea how true that is though.

Another vote for Arromanches and the surprisingly good museum there about the mulberry harbour. There is a municipal campsite in the middle of the town there too which dad and I used as a base for a few days. Excellent amenities as with every municipal site I've camped at in France.
