Re:In your dreams
I read http://www.amazon.com/Barbed-Wire-Babushkas-Odyssey-Siberia/dp/0753509385 a couple of years ago. It a canoe trip along the Amur river that forms the border between Russia and China for a large part of it's length. I've no idea if it would even be possible by bike, but that part of the world h...

Re:Eaten alive by mossies
I've experienced killer mozzies and midges in southern Sweden. One time the midges were so bad it was like a fog, you couldn't do anything with out scratching or hitting yourself every couple of seconds. Nasty things, nothing we had stopped them. Tried DEET, garlic, Nordic summer, they just kept bit...

Re:It's time for a jacket count
Only got the one, Rev-IT Off Track.
Almost a year old and wearing quite well. So far its stayed water tight and is warm enough in winter with the thermal lining in.

Re:Useful Kit - Cooking and Water Filtration
I've got a couple of those mess kits, very good they are too. One in stainless and one in aluminium. Forgot to mention in my last post about the Primus Litech frying pan. It is a superb bit of kit, made to last. The handle folds and it comes with its own little bag. The nonstick coating is fantastic...

Re:Useful Kit - Cooking and Water Filtration
I've tried a few stoves over the last few years and keep coming back to meths stoves, currently using a Trangia 27. They are slow, but they get there, so as long as you're not in a rush it's great. Gives you time to sit and think/watch while cooking. So far I've never been anywhere that didn't have ...

Re:Sleeping bag for touring
Thumbs up for Alpkit from me. I've had one of their Alpine dream 500 down bags for nearly three years now. Claimed to be good to -5. I use loads and it squashes right down to a tiny little ball, yet has kept me warm in -8 nights. A silk liner helps to keep it clean and gets an extra couple of degree...
