Update, the GS1200 LR racks weigh 3.5#'s per. The bags weight 13#'s each, total for racks and bags=33#'s. BMW Vario panniers vs Lone Rider [ LR ] semi-rigid panniers

I touched base with Andrew on weight of the LR panniers and racks. The racks for my GS 1200 weigh 3.5#' per. The LR bags weight 13# each. Bringing the total weight of racks and panniers to 33#'s. Just weighed the BMW Vario cases. One is 13#'s, the other 14.5#'s. The LR's are capable of accepting 30#...

I've worked up the numbers for mine in US pounds. 2012 R1200GS Max weight = 992 Left bag=30 right bag=30 racks=22 me=180 passenger=125 bike=525 camping gear=23 _____________________________________________ 935 pounds total. If I'm solo, only 810. Give or take another 20 pounds leeway just to be safe...

Arctic circle on the Dalton Highway, Ak. last summer. I live near the Mexican border, 7886 miles round trip in 19 days.

Another thing to consider is the overall weight that a bike can carry...with a pillion and loaded with luggage it’s easy to come close to these limits.. Over the years i have drastically reduced the amount of gear i carry on the bike through experience of what i have used and what comes along for the ride. Because i require a full hammock camping set up with petrol stove,cooking gear,food,cold weather gear and water it can be a bit on the heavy sid...

I bought a set of Lone Rider 38 and 45L bags along with their racks for the 1200GS. 3 days before X-mas, I had a left side get off on a rock ledge. Full time gear in the bags, 38L=13#'s 45L 13#'s. Supplemental supplies for a long trip I want in the bags and are set aside ready to be loaded weighs 14#s bringing each bag total to just about 20#.
