You can see the enterance to one of the quarries in front of the dogs wheel , for some reason the French in this region formed caves by cutting out stone !!!

IMG_3915 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

IMG_3916 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

Once in the bottom we had to get out, this wat or that !!!

IMG_3922 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

Leaving one of the Querries/mines after loosing Barry with no head light

If you are quarrying limestone, it is soft and easy to quarry, if underground, but when you bring the stone into the real world it hardens off and becomes much more difficult to cut.

430 miles in 24 hours on the bike--and 36 hours without sleep--starting the trial at 8 pm Friday night in the rain--and 16 observed climbs--most at night--the 88th year of the MCC Exeter trial. It seems a lot harder than when I last did it 20 odd years ago!--don't ever think that these classic trials are easy!--However, France looks nice!
